OFFICIAL: Carlos Queiroz Reappointed as Black Stars Head Coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially reappointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars, bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty surrounding the Portuguese tactician’s future.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 2, after discussions between the GFA, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and Queiroz resulted in an agreement for a new coaching mandate. The experienced coach will now continue leading Ghana into the next phase of its international football programme.

Reward for an Impressive World Cup Campaign

Queiroz was initially appointed in April 2026 following the departure of Otto Addo and was tasked with guiding the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Under his leadership, Ghana reached the knockout stages of the tournament for the first time since the 2010 World Cup.

The Black Stars opened their campaign with a victory over Panama, secured a draw against England, and advanced from the group stage before eventually being eliminated by Colombia in the Round of 32.

His performances during the tournament convinced many supporters that he deserved the opportunity to continue building the team.

Focus Shifts to AFCON Qualification

Queiroz’s immediate focus will now be Ghana’s campaign to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars are scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire away before returning home to take on The Gambia in what are expected to be crucial qualification fixtures.

The GFA says Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise, and familiarity with the team were key reasons behind the decision to retain him.
